2020 Creek Fire
The Creek Fire began near Shaver Lake on September 4, 2020, and rapidly spread through the Sierra National Forest. Fueled by extreme heat, drought, and dense vegetation, it burned nearly 380,000 acres, destroyed hundreds of buildings, forced widespread evacuations, and required dramatic rescues of people trapped near Mammoth Pool Reservoir. It became one of the largest wildfires in California history.
